What is so nice about Rock Climbing?
Why so many people taking up the sports?
Isn't it dangerous?
Just take a look at those pictures!!!
You are at such a great height! What happens if you fall?
You try to reach out to the rock above you, you raise your foot and get a firm hold on the rock. Then you step on it and at the same time, you reach out your hand to the rock. But!
The moment you hold onto it, it is a loose rock! You lost your grip, you slip, and you fall right down!
As you fall, you almost hit your buddy below you. You bypass him! The next thing you know, you are left hanging on your harness. Your buddy up there is holding on!
You suffer a bruise on your knees as while you fell down, your knee hit against those rocks. Your face rub against those rocks and now your face is bleeding.
As you try to swing back to the rock, you can feel the blood tickling down your cheeks, your sweats is flowing down your forehead, it flow onto your wound, and you can feel the pain. No choice, there no first aid at this point of time, you can't climb down, the only way out is UP!
Your knee is injured, you can only rely on 1 leg to support. What can you do? The only way out is UP!
Rock Climbing is terrible!! This is so dangerous!
But is Rock Climbing really that terrible?
Of course it is dangerous in certain degree. But are you dare enough to try out on those rocky mountains on your first attempt or when you are still an amateur? Of course you can try, if you are confident enough.
But then, I took up this Rock Climbing at Safra Yishun. Wow! It is fun!! When we are up there on the trek wall, there is this man who is the belayer who will support me when I fall. The degree of accident is to the extent of the efficiency of the man below you and the communication between the climber and the belayer.
This is a all body work out. Of course, your upper body tend to be crafted by this strenuous climbing especially the arms and the back. But the legs are the essential for a successful climb. I just feel great after each climb. The sense of accomplishment when I managed to complete the wall. After each climb, you understand your body better. Like which part of the body to focus your strength and most importantly, your focus and the concept "Mind over Body"
Today climb may be only Yeo and me, the two of us, we manage to have a good climb. We got to know some of the climbers there. They are sure hardcore climbers! Climbing the wall from one end to another and up the second floor and down again. They are on the wall climbing non-stop for almost an hour plus. WOw, just how much power can generated from them if we have human powered generator!!
The rain may cease our climb on the outdoor wall, but it never dampen our mood in the bouldering gym. Great workout for today!!
Strange but true, I may be very tired when I came home, but I can concentrate really well when I doing my work now. This must be the power of "Focus" "Mind over Body"
